Track & field teams combine for nearly 40 PRs at Penultimate Qualifier

ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings men's and women's track & field teams combined for 36 personal bests Friday night at the home Penultimate Qualifier. 

On the men's side, it was an All-Viking event in the 110m hurdles, with AJ Banks claiming first in 14.65. Banks also took second in the 400m hurdles, while Hunter Reynolds was the top Augie runner in the 200m with a personal-best time of 22.98. Three Vikings finished in the top five in the 800m as Daniel Prochaska earned a third-place standing with a PR time of 1:56.37. Joe Gibbons came in fourth with a season best and Donovan Garro notched fifth with a new lifetime best. In the 1,500m, Christian Haywood clocked a time of 4:12.19 to finish in second, while Andrew Johns followed in third.

In field events, Landon Wierenga posted a third-place finish in the hammer with a distance of 53.84m, which is good for 54th in Division III this season. Caden Eller had a PR in the high jump after clearing 1.87m, and Magnus Wells earned second in the javelin with a toss of 54.20m. Eller also grabbed third in the long jump. 

On the women's side, Cora Deemer posted a lifetime best and top 100 time in the country in the 100m prelims with a time of 12.30. Both her and McKenzie Reser finished in the top three in the event later in the day, with Deemer also earning fourth in the 200m with a mark of 25.51. Three Vikings were in the top five of the 100m hurdles as Lauren Oelke led the way with a PR time of 15.79. Kira Nelson posted a PR time of 1:05.75 in the 400m hurdles to take second. The team also saw a pair of first-place finishes in the 800m and 1,500m. Madison Wies clocked a time of 2:27.37 in the 800m, good for a lifetime best, while Keira Nelson had a lifetime best in the 1,500m with a time of 5:07.84. 

In field events, Rhiannon Marshall had the top mark in the high jump at 1.49m. Laina Nelson secured second in the javelin with a distance of 39.15m, while Cora Heller took fourth in the pole vault.

The Vikings will be back in action next week for the two-day Midwest Twilight Qualifier.
