Banks sets new school record; men win six events at SAU Tuneup

DAVENPORT, Iowa -- AJ Banks set a new school record in the 60m hurdles on Saturday at the SAU Tune Up, one of five members and one relay squad of the men's track & field team to come in first at the meet.

Banks clocked a time of 8.28 to come in first place in the event, breaking the previous record of 8.34 set by Greg Davis in 2012. Also in the 60m hurdles, Brayden Veil came in third with a mark of 8.71, good for ninth all-time in the record books. Joining Banks as a first-place finisher on Saturday was Ben Char in the 400m, clocking a time of 50.56 to win the race. Donovan Garro came in first place in the 800m with a time of 2:00.11, while Daniel Prochaska led a group of three Vikings in the top three in the mile with a first-place time of 4:24.02. Emiliano Almendariz and Garro came in second and third behind Prochaska in the race.

In the 4x400 relay race, the team of Mike Hudson John Murray, Curtis Baldwin, and Almendariz came in first with a time of 3:37.53. 

In field events, Magnus Wells was the winner in the weight throw after tossing a distance of 18.39m. The mark is now good for third-best all-time in Augustana program history. Wells also placed second in the shot put with a mark of 15.20m.

Between the men and women, the Vikings posted over 85 lifetime bests. The team will be back in action Friday for the Solomon Butler Classic.
