DAVENPORT, Iowa – Augustana headed across the Mississippi for the Bumble Rumble hosted by St. Ambrose on Saturday. Field events began the day, where sophomore
Caden Eller found success in the high jump, clearing 1.73m (5' 8") for seventh place in the event.
Fifth-year senior
Mike Hudson had a personal best in the pole vault, where he vaulted 3.35m (10' 11 ¾") for eighth place overall. Freshman teammate
Gerard Cabrera Espinach leaped to a fifth-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 12.51m (41' ½").
In the throws, senior
Magnus Wells took home third place in the weight throw with a toss of 16.98m (55' 8 ½").
On the track, sophomore
AJ Banks took home the Vikings' first top eight finish of the day. Banks qualified for the final of the 60m hurdles where he would later finish fourth in the event with a time of 8.59 seconds.
Senior
Joe Gibbons found success in the 800m run, placing sixth with a time of 2:00.99, just off his indoor lifetime best.
Viking newcomer
Ben Char placed eighth in the 200m dash with a time of 22.80 seconds.
The 4x400m relay squads of Char,
Jad Massouh, Banks, and
Beans Rice placed third in the event with a time of 3:28.00, while
Bayley Pierce,
Donovan Garro,
Daniel Prochaska, and Gibbons placed fifth with a time of 3:35.88.
The Vikings saw several personal bests to open the regular season. They will return to action at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational on Friday, January 24 in Iowa City, followed by the University of Dubuque's MoCo Mercer Challenge on Saturday, January 25.
