Women’s golf wins Highland Championship; men’s team finishes third

ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings men's and women's golf teams completed the Highland Championship on Monday. The women secured the victory over 12 teams shooting 45-over par, while the men finished in third out of 21 teams hitting five over par. 

For the women, Kelsey O'Connor remained in first place after shooting 4-over after two days of action for a total of 148. Georgia Holt placed sixth with a total score of 156, shooting 78 on both days of the event. Sarah Bond and Jama Burch shot 158 to tie with four others in eighth, while Alexus Morrow finished in 12th with round scores of 77 and 82 for a total of 159. 

Other scores for Augie were Ciera Krogman (169), Abby Buechele (169), Ellie Jahn (173), Lydia Hall (174), Emma Vander Wall (175), Kristin Rundle (175), Olivia Schwingle (178), Grace Kemp (186), and Karli Borsch (188).

On the men's side, Kevin Cortez led the team, shooting 3-under for a total of 141 with round scores of 70 and 71. Sam Evenson moved up to eighth place with five others to conclude the event with a score of 143. Alexandre Thery shot 146 to finish in 17th and Noah Ehlenbach clinched a spot in the top 20 with a score of 145. 

Augie's B team tied for ninth place with a total score of 601 shooting 25-over par. 

Other finishers for the men were: Drake Stoudt (149), Adam Soczka (150), Patrick McGrath (150), Oscar Van Dongen (151), Luke Petersen (153), Aiden Salcedo (154), Rodrigo Faundez-Sanchez (155), Jacob Brokaw (155), Andrew Reishus (155), Teague Mayer (156), Jakob Stefanowicz (158), Tyler Bayston (159), Trace Donnan (159), Thomas Fornelli (160), Elias Evander (161), Justin Goebel (161), Ryan Crowe (163), Steven Kitzman (168), Dylan Malecha (172), and Aiden Heymann (181).

The women will be back in action on Friday, September 6, and Saturday, September 7 at the Kyle Campbell Memorial Tournament in Marshall, Mich., while the men take a short break until Friday, September 20 for the Midwest Region Classic in Kansasville, Wis.
