ROCK ISLAND -- The Augustana Vikings men's basketball team will begin its 2024-25 campaign on Tuesday, November 12 when they welcome the Coe Kohawks to the Carver Center.
Augustana will enter the new year under first-year head coach
Jordan Delp, who took over as they Acting Head Coach in December of 2023. Delp led the Vikings six wins to close out the season and a trip to the CCIW Tournament. Augustana returns First Team All-Conference selection
Tyler Knuth, who led the Vikings in scoring and ranking first in the CCIW in three-point percentage and third in scoring last season. The team will boast a group of eight seniors and returns all five starters from 2023-24. Augie was picked to finish fourth in the CCIW Preseason Coaches Poll and brings back its top seven scorers and top four rebounders from a year ago. The Vikings were 7-6 on their home court a year ago and will open the season at home before three straight road games to begin the season. Augustana won its final three games in the Carver Center to close out last season and were 5-2 at home under Coach Delp. The team is 3-1 in its last four home openers.
Coe also enters the season with a first-year head coach and is coming off a 22-6 record in 2023-24 which saw a trip to the NCAA DIII National Tournament. The team lost its top two scorers from a season ago, but brings back 6-6 forward Bennett Sherry, who averaged 12.1 points and 6.8 rebounds in 2023-24. The Kohawks already have one game under their belt this season, defeating Cornell on the road by a score of 90-78 this past Friday. After trailing by seven at the half, Coe out-scored the Rams by 19 in the second half on its way to a 55-point frame. The team had four players reach double figures in scoring, led by Cooper Nailor's 23 points on 8-12 shooting. Sherry added 21 and six rebounds.The Kohawks have won 10-11 of their last 11 games on the road dating back to November 18, 2023.Â
Tuesday will be the 36th all-time meeting between the two programs, with Augustana leading the series 28-7. The Kohawks won at home last season by a score of 73-62. Knuth had 17 points to lead the Vikings, while
Chase Larsen added 12.
