ELMHURST, Ill. -- The Augustana Vikings women's volleyball team will be back in action after nearly a week off on Tuesday, October 11 as they get set to take on the Elmhurst Bluejays on the road.
Augie currently sits at 14-6 overall and 3-2 in conference play following a close 3-2 loss at Carthage last Wednesday. The Vikings went up 2-1 in the match and were leading 19-16 in set four, but saw nine straight points from the Firebirds to send it to a fifth set, which the home team took by a final of 15-11.
Emily Schipper led the Vikings with a team-high 15 kills, followed by 10 from Hurst.
Amelie Baehr-Ross tallied 35 assists, while
Grace Vranicar notched a match-best 23 digs. With her 18th dig in the fourth set, she eclipsed 1,000 career digs for her career.
Elmhurst enters Tuesday with a 4-12 overall record and 1-4 mark in league play. The Bluejays were narrowly defeated at home in their last outing, falling to defending national champion UW-Eau Claire by a final of 3-2. The Bluejays have lost 10 of 11 matches and are currently enduring a four-match losing streak. Their last win came back on September 27, a 3-2 win over North Central, which currently serves as the Cardinals' lone loss in conference.
Augie is 14-46 all-time against Elmhurst, dropping the last three meetings between the two. The Bluejays won last year's encounter by a final of 3-0.
