Senior Hailee Brayton had nine kills and four blocks Friday to help lead Augustana to a four-set

Kelly Bethke's Augustana volleyball team moved to 17-5 on the year with a four-set victory over Dubuque at Carver Center Friday. The Vikings took the opening set 25-15, fell 28-26 in the second and captured the final two by scores of 25-21 and 25-16. The Spartans dropped to 11-15 on the season.
Augustana closed the first set with a 9-1 run, turning a 16-14 lead into a 25-16 win.
The Vikings held a 22-19 lead late in the second set, but Dubuque came back to go in front. Augustana fought off four set points before falling 28-26. The Spartans carried over the momentum from that win, taking a 16-10 lead in the third before the hosts ran off a string of points with sophomore
Hannah Lindaman (North Scott HS, Eldridge, Iowa) serving to get back in it. The Vikings eventually prevailed 25-21.
Bethke's squad was in control from the outset in the fourth set, finishing off the match with a 25-16 win.
Junior
Martha Murray (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) led Augustana with a dozen kills. Senior
Dory Dudley (Tremont HS, Tremont, Ill.) added 10 without committing an attack error. Also contributing to a balanced Viking attack were senior
Hailee Brayton (St. Bede Academy, La Salle, Ill.), who had nine kills, sophomore
Jacqueline Kibir-Evans (Trinity HS, Forest Park, Ill.), with eight and senior
Emily Leazer (St. Viator HS, Arlington heights, Ill.) and sophomore
Nicole Morrissey,
(Lake Zurich HS, Lake Zurich, Ill.), who had seven apiece. Junior
Jordan Hampel (Hillirad Davidson HS, Hilliard, Ohio) had 26 assists and Lindaman added 22.
Defensively, Leazer came through with 28 digs, while junior
Kylie Siebert (Kaneland HS, Sugar Grove, Ill.) had 19 and senior
Julee Morrison (Chaparral HS, Scottsdale, Ariz.) 10. Kibir-Evans led the Vikings with six total blocks, including four of the solo variety. Brayton was in on four blocks as well.
The Vikings are next in action at Millikin on Tuesday, October 14 at 7:00 p.m. The Big Blue were ranked 20th in the most recent AVCA national poll.
